Fox Community Calendar

A PSA, also known as a public service announcement, is a free announcement which promotes programs, activities, or services of non-profit organizations or federal, state, and local government serving community interests.

PSAs came into being with the entry of the United States into World War II. Radio broadcasters and advertising agencies offered their skills and facilities toward the war effort and established the War Advertising Council which became the official homefront arm of the Office of War Information. Print, outdoor advertising and especially radio became the carriers of such messages as "Loose lips sink ships," "Keep 'em Rolling" and a variety of announcements encouraging the purchase of War Bonds.

PSA's must be written in ten lines or less and sent at least two weeks prior to the event..  No attachments, no flyers please.  Email koko@fox102.com to submit your PSA.

MITZVAH DAY

Volunteers of all ages will donate their time and talents to help many Midlands organizations during the Columbia Jewish Federation’s Mitzvah Day on Sunday, February 12. A mitzvah means ‘commandment” but commonly translates to “good deeds.” Mitzvah Day unites communities in acts of tikkun olam - repairing the world.

Mitzvah Day begins at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at the Katie and Irwin Kahn Jewish Community Center. Participants will board busses for an afternoon of volunteerism at six locations. Sites include Transitions homeless shelter, Epworth Children’s Home, the Ronald McDonald House, Sesquicentennial State Park, and much more. Learning is also considered a mitzvah, and there will be opportunities to learn from the rabbis, as well as create artwork for residential organizations in Columbia and in Israel. Volunteers will reconvene at the JCC at 3 p.m. for an ice-cream celebration.  For more information about Mitzvah Day, contact Erica Serbin at 803.787-2023, ext. 211 or ericas@jewishcolumbia.org.
